Improving the Teacher Training Process in Special Education: An Action Research

The special education teaching program in Turkey was united under a single roof with the decision taken by Council of Higher Education 2016. With this decision, programs for teachers hearing impaired, mentally disabled, visually impaired and gifted/special talented were organized as new undergraduate name "Special Teaching". Within scope research, it aimed to improve teacher training process program. For purpose, study designed an action research. research conducted at Anadolu University, Department Special Education. participants included 19 faculty members, 24 students, 12 teachers, one Ministry National official Directorate official. Semi-structured interviews, participant information form, video recordings, documents researcher diary used data collection techniques. obtained from analyzed using systematic analysis approach. As result program, arrangements made areas needed process. Steps such reorganizing evaluation criteria creating guidelines determine responsibilities stakeholders are among these arrangements. Covid-19 pandemic, activities carried out material design use distance transfer theoretical knowledge online practice environment.
